Chiropractic and related services are provided at the Sports Medicine Specialists by Dr. Cameron Borody BSc DC FCCSS(C). Dr. Borody is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and a Fellow of the College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences (Canada). Dr. Borody is the company chiropractor for the National Ballet of Canada.
Chiropractic at the Sports Medicine Specialists includes the diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the musculoskeletal system. Dr. Borody integrates information gathered from the patient history, physical examination, diagnostic imaging and other objective tests to identify the underlying cause of the injury or condition. At the Sports Medicine Specialists, Dr. Borody consults with the other medical and therapy staff in order to provide a team approach in the management of the patient.
Chiropractic treatment is primarily provided by a spinal adjustment or manipulation. This therapeutic intervention is best described as a high velocity, low amplitude thrust applied by a chiropractor to a specific segment of the spine determined to be restricted in motion. The adjustment results in an audible release that typically results in reduced pain, increased range of motion and improved overall function and performance.
Treatment provided by Dr. Borody at the Sports Medicine Specialists may include various therapies aimed at restoring and enhancing the body’s neuromusculoskeletal system to facilitate recovery from injury and optimize performance.
Dr. Borody has studied several soft tissue mobilization techniques including Active Release Techniques, Graston, and Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (SASTM). Treatment may include soft tissue mobilization, spinal manipulative therapy, acupuncture, and other commonly used electrical modalities (I.E. ultrasound, interferential current, TENS).
Functional rehabilitation may be an important part of a treatment plan at the Sports Medicine Specialists. Dr. Borody has a special interest in the rehabilitation of spine-related disorders as well as performance enhancement for various athletic pursuits including golf, tennis, baseball, hockey, basketball and volleyball. Rehabilitation and training sessions with Dr. Borody are available. |
